Zooming Through the Holidays CC-Style

Hi folks,

For those who are reading Wayside - a serial novel for the Covid Conscious community, I just published Episode 20: Lost and Found. If you're new to reading Wayside, start here.

The 12 Days of Covid Consciousmas are underway and we're having a great time!

On (U.S.) Thanksgiving Day, a group of us gathered over Zoom for Craftsgiving. We vented, laughed, and shared our experiences living the CC life, all while we worked on crafting projects, like this dented trash can ornament - a quaint reminder that viral infections - which cause people to pass out while stepping out of the shower and hit their trash cans so hard that it leaves a dent - are NOT mild!

Since then, we've gathered to watch 'The Goonies' and 'Don't Look Up' in movie watch parties, enjoyed a CC comedy show over Zoom last weekend, and had another special crafting event - Night of 1,000 Cranes. While grieving what we've lost since Covid entered our lives, we wrote our wishes, prayers, and affirmations on paper, then folded them into origami cranes as a symbolic gesture of hope and healing. You can use this video tutorial to learn how to fold a crane, and you'll better understand the meaning of folding 1,000 cranes in the deeply moving mini-documentary 1000 Cranes (5 min).

There's plenty more coming up in the 12 Days of Covid Consciousmas - a series of virtual events designed to bring Covid Conscious folks together for the holidays for celebration, connection, and community! All events are free and you're invited to participate at your own comfort level - camera/mic on or off, come and go as you please. All you need is a free Zoom account and internet-connected device.

I hope you can join us on either December 21st or 24th for a screening of the 70-minute audio drama/comedy 'A Covid Christmas Carol,' featuring the voice talents of some incredibly talented folks you may recognize from CC Twitter/CC Bluesky. See flyer below for full details.

Ugly Holiday Sweater Day is this Friday, December 19, so here's an ugly sweater art contest for anyone who'd like to enter! Full details in flyer below. If you'd like to participate but you're not on X/Twitter or Bluesky, you can email your entry to me at TheRealGuinessPig@gmail.com. One winner will be chosen and announced on Friday the 19th, and will be sent a $25 gift card (by DM or email) to my CC T-shirt Shop on Bonfire.

If you enjoy playing games, we've still got space left in Reindeer Games this Saturday the 20th. We'll break up into two teams and play a series of competitive party games. Winners take home all bragging rights!

If you're thinking more about sustainable living these days, or if you've ever wanted to grow your own food but don't have an outdoor space for a garden, Vanessa Walilko has you covered. Join us on Sunday, December 21 for 'Sowing Seeds, Tending Trees: Growing Plants in Small Spaces.'

Last but not least, we'll be watching 'It's a Wonderful Life' in color over Zoom on Christmas Day, and will keep the Zoom meeting going after the movie for anyone who'd like to stick around and chat for a bit. See flyer below for more details.

Holidays can be isolating and stressful for CC folks, so if you're struggling with the distance from loved ones and the disconnect from 'normal' holiday gatherings and traditions, don't forget that like-minded company is within your reach this month!

RSVP for any of the 12 Days of Covid Consciousmas events by sending a message here with the event names(s) and date(s) you'd like to join.

May your days be merry and bright... as well as free of disease-causing pathogens!

In good humor and solidarity,

Guiness Pig
